Beware of Electrical Damage From Spring and Summer Storms: 4 Things to Look Out For

The lightning and hail that goes with the rain can have a big impact on your home or business’s electrical system. Be on the lookout for the following electrical issues from storms this season.

1. Electrical Surges to Your Property

Your property can experience an electrical surge when lightning strikes a power line. This strike sends much more electricity into your home or business. Surges can damage any electronics you have plugged in and can result in a loss of power. 

Make sure to plug electronics into a surge protecting power strip. A main panel surge protector is an even better investment in keeping your property safe. It is also important to have these systems inspected regularly by professionals.

2. Have a Backup When Your Power Goes Out

Storms bring thunder and lightning, but also high winds. Lightning, in addition to winds, can mean knocked over trees and downed power lines. Your area may lose power during or directly after a storm. Sometimes, your power can stay off for days at a time, especially if many other properties lose power. A backup generator provides a solution for you when your power goes out. 

3. The Dangers of Fires

Heat also comes from lightning. Lightning can cause fires by directly striking your property or an object right nearby. The fire may start between walls or in other places you cannot see. If your neighborhood has a thunderstorm and you suspect a fire, contact the fire department right away.

4. Be Safe During Hail Storms
